  • Would be great to have sometime soon. When I initially got the Apple TV it was mostly for Zwift, but then I switched to SF. I like Sufferfest enough that I’ve dealt with an iPad resting on aerobars for past couple years, but if Apple TV was online, UX would be good enough to get the wife signed up

  • Hoping this happens soon. Thinking about switching from Zwift, but Apple TV is a must. What’s up?

  • I’d hoped that this was going to be included in the release just announced where TrainingPeaks plans are now integrated.
Is there an Apple TV announcement imminent?

  • Sounds like they dropped the ball on Apple TV. I care about that much more than training peaks. So frustrating

  • I agree Martin - I think I am not going to renew my subscription until there is an Apple TV app - messing around with laptops and streaming to Apple TV is just not the experience you want is it?

  • Oh, how wonderful it would be
    To suffer with Apple TV!
Of course one can mirror the phone, it’s true
And that means no difference in what you view,
But to start the day in a suffering way
Means your phone battery suffers too

  • It is not true that mirroring produce the same image. In the iPhone app the dashboard and controls are sized to be readable on a tiny screen and once mirrored they occupy a large portion of the tv screen. It looks bad and it is a waste of space. A proper Apple TV app would size everything appropriately for a large screen. Also airplay introduce significant lag that the Apple TV app won’t have. Airplay is designed to stream video where delay does not matter. Interactive apps not so much.

  • I agree, Martin. I have tried to stream workouts from my MacBook and experienced choppy playback. It is frustrating to have to balance an iPad on the handlebars while a 55" screen is a few feet away. It does make for a decent mirror with which to check form. Hehe.

  • Just want to add my +1. I like Sufferfest, did the trial, and would love to subscribe. I won’t until there is an Apple TV app. I could futz-around with mirroring and balancing phones/ipads, etc, but I already have a sweet setup. It’s not worth the headache. Will stick with Zwift and Fulgaz for now.

  • Please AppleTV. After using appleTV for zwift it’s a no brainer. I can still do other things with my phone if I need to without dropping out. Once you drop out one screen mirroring you lose the whole feed and the image doesn’t come back . V frustrating if halfway through a workout. I’m not yet subscribed - about to try fulgaz now. I really like sufferfest but Apple TV natively is pretty damn awesome, awesome enough to stop me subscribing

  • Zwift, Fulgaz and now Rouvy Ar (Free beta) on Apple Tv, I really like Sufferfest, but apps on apple Tv is a direct play, no mirroring, no charging of ipad, and full screen video.

  • I guess I'm a dummy for paying for a full year just a few weeks ago. I'm sure the nerds are hard at work, but an update would be appropriate. Come in guys, we work hard; it would be nice to know you are too.

  • Hi Everyone,
We are still working on the Apple TV app. The current focus for this quarter, though, is our Android app. Rest assured that Apple TV isn't being forgotten about, we are working hard to make it a truly spectacular app!

  • Thanks for the update Rebecca. No doubt that a quality product should be top priority. Previously you mentioned the end of 2019. Have plans changed? Is there a beta option for those who wish to be early adopters? I have no need for the app come Spring. Cheers!

  • While doing the Apple TV app was a simple développement since they have an iOS app already - this is a simple modification of existing code, instead they decided to do the Android app. Android development is a big can of worms that will suck tons of resources for a long time. I hope for them the Android users will agree to pay for the service, they are notorious for expecting everything to be free. Anyhow given that decision, if they stick to this plan of doing the Apple TV app only when the Android app is finished, then it will be a while before the Apple TV app shows up. Don't expect anything until next winter...

  • Martin: Agreed.. I totally understand the challenge of weighing priorities, however I can’t help but be disappointed. My AppleTV setup and its simplicity is part of the reason I can train consistently without fiddling/dropouts/frustration. It’s elegant right now with Zwift and Fulgaz, and I’ve been looking at RGT and Rouvy as well. I’m getting enough out of those, and now that my trial is done with Sufferfest, I’ll be waiting until the AppleTV app comes out before considering a subscription. Still holding out hope for something sooner than later....

  • I'm going to respond to the comment about lags when mirroring the iPhone on Apple, and its use of real estate. I've been doing this for several years and never had a problem, even when streaming the videos instead of downloading them to my phone in advance. Nor am I a using the latest and greatest hardware. My setup is an iPhone 7 running the latest iOS, an Apple router circa 2015, and Apple TV circa 2015. You just need an iPhone holder mounted to your trainer (easy to find on Amazon). My personal experience when capturing cadence, heart rate, and power (the latter from a trainer) on Zwift for the Apple TV, was that I needed to run the Zwift companion app ON MY PHONE in order to handle all the bluetooth connections. So that doesn't seem ideal. And by comparison, it means that, at least for me, Sufferfest mirrored through Apple TV is actually SIMPLER than Zwift's native Apple TV app, because I need the companion app, too. But the reason for choosing Sufferfest over the other apps out there, and I have trialed them ALL, is that if you go all in, do the 4DP power profile, and then follow one of their training plans, you WILL get faster fast. And while some of the workouts are intense to say the least, many of them are witty, and even funny! So, after a couple of years of having the Sufferfest app but not really embracing it, now that I have, I really do feel sure that it is better than most of the competition. I get that Zwift allows racing against other people and that is great, too, and maybe complementary. I just couldn't get into the training part of it, because I needed some structure. The Sufferfest gives me that. I'm writing this just so that it might help someone else weighing the pros and cons of the great variety of apps out there.

  • Apple TV allows 3 BT connections. Remote is one, remains two. Typical setup is one connection for the HRM strap, and the other for the smart trainer. A smart trainer broadcast power cadence and control all on the same channel. So you get all that no problem. Even with Zwift I don't need the companion app for sensors (I use it for other reasons). So unless your smart trainer does not provide cadence+power you are fine there.
Regarding visual If you had an Apple TV app your dashboard would use maybe 10% instead of 30% of the TV screen making the video so much more immersive. The iPhone app when mirror on the screen produces a huge dashboard that is way too invasive. And the smart trainer control would not lag with what you see onscreen which is does when mirroring because of the AirPlay delay. I agree the Sufferfest content is great. But the Apple TV experience is very much sub-par with where the other platforms are at now. Mirroring is just a patch.

  • Hi Martin: I'm using a Wahoo Kickr, pre-2018, so cadence is not part of the package-hence the BT limitations that I am running into. I see what you are saying about the dashboard, but my own subjective experience has been a positive one. I like seeing easily that I am hitting the power and cadence targets. I just want to make sure that people reading these forums get the full picture. All that said, I agree that it would be great to run the app natively on Apple TV. In my case, however, I will also have to hope that Apple TV allows more BT connections in the future, or I will have to upgrade my trainer (not likely!).

  • Jonathan, some people are using this product below two work around the 2 BT channels limitation. Acts as a bridge between ANT+ and BT essentielly condensing all sensors into one channel with HRM, Cadence, power. Much cheaper than a new trainer ! There might be other similar options out there but I remembered that one.
