Tempo 2x30 Workout in Training Plan

I have just started a Training Plan in Final Surge - Sustained Efforts weakness.intermediate.

The final workout of the first week according to the plan is called Tempo 2x30 and it is 2:15:00 long. I have searched in the workouts list but I cannot find this workout by name, or similar at this length.

Am I missing something?

  • Hi Graham,

It sounds like you might be using one of the plans that has indoor/outdoor rides. If so, that is one of the rides that is meant to be done indoors or outdoors but does not yet have an associated workout in the app. We are working hard to fill in all the gaps with those workouts so they appear as NoVid session. If you have a cycling computer or watch, you can program the session into that and use it to guide you as you ride. If you choose to ride indoors, you can still pull up a SUF video to watch for entertainment but just be sure you don't put a smart trainer in ERG mode, you'll want to be able to control that yourself to stay on target.

  • OK.

Are you saying it is possible to use Sufferfest to simply capture your workout numbers, and use your Garmin to set your targets or are you saying that I should use the Garmin to capture the workout too?

When you say pull up a SUF video for entertainment I'm not sure what that means. I don't see videos that are independent of workouts.

  • Hi Graham, that's right! You can use your Garmin to give you prompts for what power you should be at and it will guide you through the workout. And you can certainly record your workout on the Garmin if you are able to connect your power source to it.

You can, however, still record the workout in The Sufferfest app if you would rather or if you are using virtual watts. Pull up any video (maybe It Seemed Like Thin Air for one of this length) and ignore the onscreen power targets, just use the Garmin as your guide. As long as you aren't using ERG mode on a smart trainer there isn't any way for the app to force you to do the onscreen workout. You can let the Garmin tell you what to do but see/record your metrics in the Suf app. I find that the music and video footage help keep me engaged during long rides like that, even if I'm not doing the workout associated with the video.

I hope that all makes sense and that you have a good ride!

  • Hello! Just wanted to share that I would like to see this exercise uploaded as well for indoor use. As an alternative, I think I can do the Tempo 2x25, but stop after 2:15:00.
