Best prep for General Road racing

It's winter in the Southern Hemisphere, holidays are done and it's time to start preparing for the new race season. In preparation for an A event road race (say less than 100km, rolling or climbing hills), is it recommended to just complete the SUF General Road plan (indoor or indoor/outdoor) 10 or 12 weeks out, or is there a combination of plans that give a longer base, build & specialty type progression?
