I fear that I will score too low on the 5 sec power test, as there's no way I can put out the same max power on my trainer as I can outdoor. Won't that mess up my rider type?

Agree - And not only for "cheap" trainers. It's good for consistency by allowing to use same PM indoor as outdoor. This gets a vote from me too
